BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) Certification Type Approval for India
Introduction:
- Mandatory certification for electric wires, cables, appliances such as electric iron, electric radiator, electric immersion water heater, electric stove, 3-pin plugs and socket outlets, switches for domestic and similar purposes, 2-A switches for electric and similar purpose.
- Product certification scheme is available for foreign manufacturers whereby Standard Mark License can be granted for any product that conforms to applicable Indian standard.
- Scheme operates on self-certification basis but subject to surveillance operations of BIS.
- Some products such as gas cylinders and valves are certified under special certification schemes of lot or batch inspection.
